Punk Scholars Network

Website designer

I was contracted by the Punk Scholars Network as a freelance website designer, to redesign their WordPress website and migrate the content from the original. The redesign of the website, was carefully considered with the needs of the network in mind. In particular, they needed a website which could be easily updated, with little need for knowledge of website development. This need was managed by incorporating a 'News' category which ensures all posts uploaded, are uploaded in chronological order and are situated on the homepage.

Through using a strong typography and colour scheme and categorising content and information the published website is one focussed on the user experience and the latest news from the network.

DEANS DILEMMA

2018

DEANS DILEMMA

Web Design & Illustration

Dean's Dilemma is an online narrative that aims to educate children on ocean pollution through an exciting and interactive story. The main premise of the story is that a young boy is on holiday with his family and asks for help from the user to make decisions throughout. The decisions relate to issues about ocean pollution and the user can see the effects of their decisions on the environment throughout. Furthermore, these decisions controls the storyline, and there are multiple routes that can be taken. Finally, no matter what story line the user takes, ‘did you know’ segments will always occur, enhancing the educational aspect and enriching the deliverance of social issues in a new way.

PRESS RELEASE

Deans Dilemma: Press Release

Skills Used:

  • Press Relation Knowledge

  • Graphic Design

Press Relations & Graphic Design

Looking beyond the initial project of creating an online, interactive narrative, I have explored the opportunity of building an app around Deans Dilemma. This would include numerous books based on the same structure as the existing one, all with the intent to educate children on environmental issues. The books will include features such as pop ups, sound effects, decision making and animations. In anticipation of developing the app I have prepared a preliminary draft of a press release including graphic designs of billboards and an early design of the app. The press release includes all necessary information such as the platforms the app will available on, and the price.

PLASTIC OCEANS

2018

Plastic oceans

Web Design

Covering more than 70 percent of our planet, oceans are among the earth’s most valuable natural resources. For this reason, I produced an online, interactive, infographic about ocean pollution, focusing on plastic pollution, in particular. The purpose for doing so, is to inform the public about plastic pollution, in regard to the damaging effects it has on oceans. The goal for this infographic is to create a data set that influences the public to stop using single-use plastics such as shopping bags, water bottles and straws and instead purchasing reusable versions of those products, for example, metal straws, coffee cups and water bottles. Functions of interactivity included are charts, API maps, videos and even a plastic footprint calculator.

1st WEBSITE

2016

1st Website Coded

Web Design

In this project I was tasked with learning the coding languages HTML and CSS in three months, whilst understanding the needs of a client. Despite the need for a design update, this website showcases my skills in coding and how in three months I was able to move from beginner to a competent coder. Furthermore, I created a comprehensive website, that includes a Lightbox, RSS feed and an embedded video. Finally, I learnt how to extract the clients needs and wants from the information they give me.
